Welcome to Special K Software
card game shareware.
The 500 Card Game is the greatest card game ever devised (arguably). It is most popular in Australia, New Zealand, parts of America, and Canada. Download the software that allows you to play against the computer here. Being so wide spread, there are very many local house rules. The current version includes options to play with most of these. It also supports most non-standard screen resolutions.
The latest addition to the range is a new Windows version. The 32 bit WINDOWS version is tailored specifically for Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP/Vista, is more reliable on later Windows operating systems, and has more features.
People who do not enjoy 500 will certainly enjoy the BRIDGE card game or EUCHRE or CANASTA or WHIST or one of the eleven games contained within the RUMMY family of games. All of these card games are also available from this site. These games are played in far more locations world wide than 500, and their fans are more fanatical. All of these games are enjoyable and contain a different balance of skill and luck. The Bridge game is designed for both beginners and experts, and has many tuition features which may be turned off for the expert. It has a real time explanation of what bids mean as well as an extensive help file.
RUMMY contains classic Rummy games, such as GIN RUMMY, 500 RUMMY, PINOCHLE RUMMY, KALUKI, OKLAHOMA GIN, MICHIGAN RUMMY.
EUCHRE and the latest addition to this card game range, CANASTA, have customisable settings so that they are a challenge to new and experienced players.
WHIST contains both the standard Whist game, and also Knock Out Whist.
All the games of 500 , Bridge , Euchre , Canasta , Whist and Rummy are recognised as being the best collection in their class.
Enjoy......

RUMMY started as a game called Coon-Can, which spread from Mexico to the South Western United States in the early 1900's. This game shared the same objectives as all Rummy games - to meld your cards in to groups of three or more cards of the same rank, or cards in sequence.

EUCHRE Card Game From Special K
This classic Euchre game plays in Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP/Vista. EUCHRE is probably derived from the game 'Juker' which was played in Alsace. It reached the USA in the early 1800's, and in the 1850's it became the first game to use a Joker. In 1904 the US Playing Card Co. created a variant called 500.

CANASTA Card Game From Special K
This classic Canasta game plays in Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP/Vista. Canasta (and its variations) is one of the best known games in the world. It belongs in the Rummy family. Canasta is the Spanish word for Basket and the card game evolved in Uruguay and Argentina in the mid 1940's. It became the most popular card game in America from 1948 and in Britain in the years 1950 to 1952.
The game has the advantage that it is enjoyable when played with two to six players, although it is classically played with four. The game shares the same objectives as all Rummy games - to meld your cards in to groups of three or more cards of the same rank, but in Canasta sequences are not allowed. In addition, the major points are awarded to achieving groups of 7 or more cards in a meld (called a Canasta). I owe a debt of gratitude to many of the users of this game who have helped to enhance it. In particular, I would like to thank Alan Martin of Two Rocks, Western Australia for help in improving it.

WHIST Card Game From Special K
Whist originated in England when it evolved from earlier games (e.g., Triumph and 'Ruff and Honours') which were known in the 16th century. Edmond Hoyle published A Short Treatise on the Game of Whist in 1742, but Henry Jones was the first person to compile a complete description of scientific whist play in 1862. During the 19th century, the game spread to other European countries, and Whist tournaments (or Whist Drives) were organized. Whist continued the evolution and gave rise to the game of Bridge during this century.
